Robert L. Johnson is one of the most well renowned African American entrepreneurs. He is best known for his company BET Holdings, INC. A triple threat, Johnson is the creator, chairman, and CEO of this company. His company became the first African American controlled cable company listed on the New York Stock Exchange. After selling his company to Viacom, an enormous media group in 2001, he became the first African American billionaire. Johnson led the way for many entrepreneurs such as Oprah Winfrey, Montel Williams, and many more. Robert Louis Johnson was born April 8, 1946 in Hickory, Mississippi. He was the ninth out of the ten children in his family. In 1968, he received his Bachelor’s Degree in History at the University of Illinois and in 1972; he received his Master’s Degree in Public Administration at Princeton University. After graduating with his Master’s Degree, went on to work for the Corporation of Public Broadcasting. High school is a place where students can slide easily through. They do not have to put forth any effort to get a good grade. They feel that they can get maximum achievement with minimum work. To some high school is way too easy and that they can just cake walk through. However, to others, such as author Daniel Bruno, it is an imperfect reality that many high school students get sucked into. In his essay â€Å"Entitlement Education,† Daniel Bruno courageously uncovers the truth about how high school students take advantage of the No Child Left Behind policy. Daniel goes behind the curtains to reveal real life high school and how students are not trying to achieve greatness but just enough or nothing at all. In America we have a society that allows our students to not try their best in school. Students wake up knowing that they don’t have to try as hard because they will receive a passing grade. Daniel exposes how students are under prepare for college because they lack the knowledge being taught in high school. They do not pay close attention because again they expect or they feel that they are entitled to a good grade. They will also be cheated because their lives will be less. They will get find his or her self at a disadvantage on a job. They say that intelligence is the quality of his or her life. A person may have knowledge but no intelligence. So, they can know all the facts there is to know but cannot apply it to solve problems or make connections. In conclusion, entitlement does go on forever. They are cheated out of a number of things before they even realize it. Entitlement is only handicapping high school students from the next level which is college. Immigration has been around ever since people have chosen to move around to different lands other than their own to settle and live on. The United States is one big melting pot of immigrants; it is made up of immigrants from everywhere in the world: people from Ireland, Germany, China, and everywhere else. According to bbc.co.uk immigrants migrate because of â€Å"pull factors† which are reasons why people immigrate somewhere new. Some examples of pull factors are higher employment rates, more money, better help, better climate, the feeling of more security, and freedom (Migration). Lately immigration has become a big issue with the United States and many people have different opinions on the subject. Some of the issues have to do with jobs,†¦show more content†¦The U.S. workforce has more than doubled since World War II, yet workers’ real total compensation (wages plus benefits) is higher now than ever† (25). This, in Akers’ opinion, is because th e United States has developed from immigrants, coming to America. She feels that immigrants should always be allowed from other countries. In the end, Akers concludes that the economy is booming from the immigration and that immigrants should always be allowed to move to the United States, thus helping us achieve a more successful economy. On the other side of the spectrum we have Art Thompson, The CEO of The John Birch Society (which is a conservative public policy organization), who believes that illegal immigrants have a negative effect on the economy. He emphasizes that illegal immigrants are stealing jobs instead of creating them for Americans. And that they also burdened taxpayers who somehow ended up funding social events for the illegal immigrant populations. Thompson also believes that subsidizing illegal immigrants with Medicare, Medicaid, schooling, housing, and all the other benefits cost Americans billions of dollars per year. Thompson further states that â€Å"in Cali fornia in 2004, the cost for unreimbursed health care was estimated at $1.4 billion† (31).
